Common Q & A’s of PRP Hair Restoration

Dr. Elizabeth Miller N.D.

This consult is in place for your safety, and for determining if you are a suitable candidate for the treatment. Certain underlying health conditions PRP may be contraindicated such as uncontrolled diabetes, infection, recent history of cancer and liver disease.  During this consult we discuss if a partial or full treatment would be best suited to you.  Beyond these items, I review general health symptoms and recent laboratory testing.  When indicated, laboratory testing may be recommended prior to starting treatment to investigate underlying causes for the hair loss that may impede your success with PRP.

Once this is completed, we can confidently move on to treatment.

How many treatments will I need?

New clients are recommend completing a PRP series – 1 treatment every 4-6 weeks for three to four treatments.  After this series, a maintenance treatment is recommend every six months to a year. The timing of these maintenance treatments can vary due to factors such as initial response to PRP, genetics, overall health, and the use of supportive medications or treatments.

When will I see results?

During the consultation we review expectations based on timeline for hair loss and grade of hair loss.  While most results begin to show  at the third treatment (8-10 weeks), we do see results for some people at the second treatment ( 4 weeks) and six weeks after the third treatment for others (14-16 weeks).

Will it hurt?

This is a common concern!  I offer a few different options for pain management from cold/pressure/distraction techniques, topical numbing cream, to injected anaesthetic.  I am happy to address any fears with PRP, injection therapies and blood draws. I manually inject the PRP with needles that are used for mesotherapy- very small! Nervous clients who ask to see the needle, are generally relieved after.
