A recent study conducted at the University Of California San Diego School Of Medicine has found higher levels of Vitamin D, specifically blood levels of 25 – Hydroxyvitamin D, are associated with a lowered risk of cancer.
The PLOS Once study pooled together the analysis of two previous studies involving a total of 2304 women. The researchers found women with 25-Hydroxyvitamin D levels of 40 ng/ml or greater had a 67% lower risk of cancer than women with levels of 20ng/ml or less.
The researchers do not identify a single daily recommended daily dose of Vitamin D, or how the Vitamin D is administered (sunlight, diet and/or supplementation). Their report indicates a significant decreased risk of developing cancer when serum levels of 25-Hydroxyvitamin D reach 40mg/ml or more.
Vitalia Health Care offers serum Hydroxyvitamin D testing. Call us today to find your blood Vitamin D levels. If your levels are low, one of our Naturopathic Doctors can recommend the appropriate dosage and form of Vitamin D supplement to meet your body’s needs.
