Anti-Aging and Rejuvenation Medicine

To look and feel your best, treatments to prevent effects associated with aging can target both internal and external health and appearance.  Minimizing inflammation and damage to cells is achieved by diet, lifestyle and supplement regimes. An investigation into hormone levels in the body is done by evaluating symptoms and performing specialized laboratory tests. Correcting imbalances and deficiencies with herbs and bio-identical hormone replacement therapy (BHRT) can bring balance and improvement to mood, weight, energy and skin tone and texture.

As an additional therapy to support internal balance, the use of botulinum injections (Botox) eliminates lines that show during facial expression.  By weakening the facial muscles beneath the skin, patterns such as crow’s feet, frown lines and forehead wrinkles disappear.  This safe, temporary effect lasts 3-4 months but can also prevent future wrinkles from forming and leaving the skin smooth for a youthful appearance.  Xeomin is a newer pharmaceutical botulinum toxin which has the same effects as Botox and is the preferred choice at our clinic.

Natural Ways to Stay Healthy During Cold and Flu Season!

fluIt is now the month of November.

In Vancouver we really have been blessed with wonderful Fall weather. However, we still cannot forget that cold and flu season is quickly approaching. Many parts of Canada have shown early outbreaks of influenza and we are expecting a nasty flu season this year.

There are many ways to protect you and your family from getting the flu. For those of you looking for natural ways to boost your immune system, I will mention 3 of my favorite!

First, get your Pascoleucyn at Vitalia Health Care. This is a combination of botanical and homeopathics administered as a drinkable solution. We have been recommending this Pascoleucyn for over 15 years to our patients. We love it as it boosts overall immunity to help you body fight off viruses and bacteria. Many of my patients who work in closed environments around others are very happy when they avoid catching their coworkers germs! The Pascoleucyn is also a safe, non-toxic way to boost your child’s immune system and keep them healthy.

Second, one of my favorite herbs to fight off colds and the flu is Oregano. This wonderful herb is now available in a tablet form that seems to give it a boost in its bug-killing effect. ADP-oregano taken daily is a great way to keep your immune system strong and kill off those nasty viruses. This supplement is available at Vitalia Health Care.

Third, I love Immune Essentials to stop a cold or flu in its track at the first sign of an infection. This supplement contains naturally sourced Beta Glucans which effectively kill viruses at the first sign of a cold (for example, when you get a scratchy throat). I use Immune Essentials every time I feel a cold coming on. It shortens the duration and the intensity of the infection. Keep Immune Essentials in your medicine cabinet!

Check out our specials on the Pascoleucyn today. Stay healthy and have a wonderful Fall season. Don’t forget to RSVP to our Eternal Youth event to launch our Medical Aesthetics and Anti-aging division of Vitalia Health Care!

PMS, a personal story
By Dr. Waller, ND.

pms

I’ve decided to get a little personal and talk about a subject that I, along with many women deal with, every month.  I’m talking about premenstrual syndrome (PMS), which affects more than 20% of women[1] to a life disrupting level.

For many years I managed symptoms of irritability, depression, fatigue, premenstrual migraine and cramping with diet modification and treatments like detoxification, liver support, herbal remedies and nutritional supplements.  They worked fairly well and after years of following a plan, I found I did not have to be as regimented with following the plan to maintain results.  Thank goodness, because I am not an ND who likes a lot of pills so taking breaks certainly helped.

I am not sure if it was having my son (now 5) or getting older (I’m now 40) or a combination, but the past few years my PMS seemed to take a significant turn for the worse.  I suffered with 2 days of premenstrual migraines, extreme fatigue, irritability for 10 days, disrupted sleep for an entire week, muscle aches, breast tenderness and ANXIETY. The old regime did not seem to be making a significant impact, or I just was not as focused on it.  I needed to do something different.

I have known for a long time that I am Progesterone deficient, so after consulting a colleague, we decided it was time for progesterone hormone replacement.  I began a low dose of bio-identical progesterone to be taken before bed.  Wow, am I so happy I decided to go this route!  With my first dose I was able to sleep, and the next day I had no muscle tension, my mood was lifted and stable, and my energy was increased.  With continued use, I had relief from my premenstrual migraines, no breast tenderness, reduced cramps, and NO Anxiety. It has truly been life changing.

I have been working with women for years on balancing hormones but generally have been conservative with hormone prescribing, reserving it for menopausal women and women who are further into peri-menopause.  But when a woman is really suffering and herbal remedies just aren’t doing the trick, Bio-identical hormones, specifically progesterone, should be considered, even in younger females, when necessary.  In some cases, Hormone replacement, does not have to be long term and can be used to help restore balance, and to counter act some of the negative effects of stress hormones.

Bio-identical hormone replacement is not for everyone, but a hormone like progesterone is very safe and can be custom compounded so small doses can be made for an individuals needs.
